Jose Bernardo Luarte August 19, 1941 – February 01, 2021 On February 1st, 2021, Jose Bernardo Luarte, whom we lovingly called Berny, passed away due to complications from Covid. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. Berny will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rosa, his three children Eileen, Chelsea and Joseph, his 5 grandchildren Zackary, Jarrod, Izabel, Hailey, Jules and his furry grandbabies Mayu and Obie. We will always cherish our happy memories of Berny. Berny was born in Guatemala and came to California when he was a young man. It was in Manhattan Beach that Berny met his love of his life Rosa. Together they spent 50 years working hard to raise their beautiful family, travel, eat and walk the beach. Berny prided himself in taking great care of others and putting their needs before his. He was always at the disposal of his children, always tinkering with his tools in his man cave. He loved being a handyman fixing stuff around the house. Berny also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren watching them participate in sports. Mostly, Berny loved being around his family and family gathering (we should have had more of them). Another one of his past times was strolling down the beach with his wife and taking walks with Mayu. After working 30 plus years as an aircraft mechanic for Garrett Airesearch, Berny retired and was finally able to travel. One passion of his was being able to see as much of the world as he could. Berny had traveled to many states in America, Guatemala, Europe and Spain. His last trip was taken with his wife Rosa in 2018 to Egypt. It was Berny’s desire to visit the saint land and Mom was able to help him fulfill his dream. They spent close to 3 weeks visiting and had even taken a dip in the Jordan River. Berny had met several people along the way always leaving an impression of such a nice humble peaceful man. Berny loved people and if you were in need he would take the shirt of his back just so that others had. Berny knew how blessed he was with the love he was surrounded with. If you met Berny you would love him too as we all did. Berny will always be loved, in our hearts and never forgotten. A small service will be held at GreenHills Cemetery on March 5th at 3pm.
