December 24, 1926 - January 3, 2022
Margaret (Robles) Krauser died peacefully in her sleep at home on January 3, 2021, at the age of 95. Our mother was born to Juan Robles and Juana Torres in Santurce, Puerto Rico. She left Puerto Rico in her 20’s to make a life for herself in New York City where she found work, connected with family who had made the move earlier, made many life long friends, and enjoyed the abundant opportunities offered by the city that she came to love. She met and married her first husband Christian and had three daughters, Denise, Linda and Christine. Later in her life, she met and married William Krauser. Margie, as her friends and family called her, and her young family made the move to Los Angeles in the mid-fifties. There, they purchased a small home in one of the new little suburbs, Torrance, that were springing up all over California at that time. Our mother had been under the impression that they would be moving to another big city. It took her some time to embrace suburban life, but embrace it she did, and she once again, took advantage of the opportunities around her to improve her life and the lives of her family. Cooking for her family, especially delicious Puerto Rican specialties, was something that our mother loved to do. She was famous for her rice and beans and there was nothing like walking into her house with that aroma wafting through it. Creativity was a key component of her life. She was a skilled hairdresser and owned and ran two popular beauty salons that flourished in the Torrance and Long Beach area. She also loved to crochet. All of her children and grandchildren were blessed with many lovingly made blankets, sweaters and other intricately designed items. Our mother played an important role in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At some point in each of their lives, our mom was there to help. Whether to baby-sit, provide shelter and comfort during difficult situations, or to just chat on the phone, she was there for all of us. Though her passing leaves a hole in our hearts, we are grateful for the long years we had with her and for the many things she taught us all. We will love her always. Viewing ceremony will be held Tuesday, January 18th, 2022, from 4pm to 8pm at Green Hills Mortuary. Chapel service will take place on Wednesday, January 19th at 2pm followed by the burial at 3pm, at Green Hills Mortuary.
